'America's Got Talent' winner's Las Vegas Strip show closing

The Las Vegas Strip hosts very few acts that aren’t clearly music or clearly comedy. With the city evolving into one of the music capitals of the world, it has become difficult for anything other than a big name from current music or a huge nostalgic act to succeed.

When Adele, Garth Brooks, Bruno Mars, or Lady Gaga have unsold seats, it’s hard to get people to pay for novelty acts, variety shows, or other Las Vegas Strip traditions.

A city that used to be known for tribute acts, Elvis impersonators, and showgirls, has become a city where the biggest names in all genres of music perform. On the comedy side, it’s very much the same, as huge names like Jerry Seinfeld have residencies while Jimmy Kimmel owns a comedy club, and other big names cycle through various Strip venues.

The changing nature of Las Vegas and the acts that perform there make Terry Fator’s 16-year run working as a ventriloquist across multiple Las Vegas Strip properties incredibly impressive. That run, however, is about to come to an end.

Terry Fator’s Las Vegas history:

2007-2020: The Mirage residency

  • 2007: After winning America’s Got Talent, Fator performed at the Las Vegas Hilton, selling out shows in October and December.
  • May 2008: He signed a five-year, $100 million contract to perform nightly at The Mirage, replacing Danny Gans.
  • July 2020: Fator concluded his 11-year residency at The Mirage.

2021-2024: New York-New York and The Strat

  • 2021: Fator briefly performed at New York-New York Hotel and Casino, using the former Zumanity theater and later relocating to the Liberty Loft event space.
  • May 2024: He began a new residency at The Strat Hotel, Casino & Tower, debuting the show “Terry Fator: One Man, a Hundred Voices, a Thousand Laughs!

September 23, 2025: Final performance

  • September 23, 2025: Fator announced the abrupt end of his 16½-year run as a Las Vegas Strip performer, with his final show at The Strat Theater scheduled for the same evening.

Terry Fator’s show is closing

Fator has arguably been the biggest star to ever come from “America’s Got Talent.”

Even noted curmudgeon and AGT host Simon Cowell has sung his praises.

“There’s no question, he’s the most successful Contestant we’ve ever had,” Cowell told People in November 2022. “He’s had three Vegas deals … worth about a hundred million.”

Fator’s Strat show was the culmination of everything he had done on television and in his previous Las Vegas Strip stops. The resort casino described in on its website:

One Man, a Hundred Voices, a Thousand Laughs! is an all new multi-media, immersive Vegas production featuring comedy, music, parody through Fator’s amazing skill as one of the World’s top ventriloquists. His cast of characters showcase the songs that make up the soundtrack of our lives whether rock, country, soul, pop, heavy metal, and Broadway, whether it’s the songs of Garth, Lionel, Elvis, Bowie, or Taylor Swift – you’ll love the songs and stories and laughs that Terry and his cast bring to the stage.

Fator won’t get a long farewell, or even a nice goodbye. His final performance will be Sept, 23.

“Las Vegas will always be my home, and I’ve loved every moment performing at The Strat for fans from all over the globe,” Fator said in a statement issued by a PR rep at 4 a.m. as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I can’t wait to bring my characters, comedy, and music to symphony stages, share some brand-new television projects, and expand my touring schedule with an all-new road show.”

Las Vegas Strip shows have struggled

Visits to Las Vegas have slowed down over the past few months. That’s having an impact on some of the entertainment in the city,

“Some of the shows that we consider that are the second choice, shows that are underneath the kind of the headliners, the residency headliners, the touring shows, those at the sphere are suffering,” John Katsilometes, also known as Johnny Kats told 3 News Las Vegas.

It only takes a small downturn to put a show in danger of being shut down.

“And anywhere, you know, it’s usually about, you know, 10 20% of decline in shows that are of that type. We’re talking about some of the Cirque du Soleil shows, Spiegel world shows, the residency productions, and often that level of that number is what they’re they need to turn a profit,” he added.

Some of the Las Vegas Strip shows that have closed since 2020
