Stricter regulations will be imposed on ticket sales in response to concerns by fans who paid above face value to attend the Oasis reunion tour.

A competition inquiry into Ticketmaster will result in new rules being introduced to ensure that fans receive “clear, accurate information, upfront”.

Ticketmaster was criticised for misleading fans who waited for hours in online queues only to find out that tickets were much pricier than they had expected.

In some cases they paid over £500 for “platinum” tickets with the expectation of added perks, but which proved to be identic al to the standard option.

Those fans expecting to pay £150 for standing areas, ended up paying around £300 after the price leapt once the cheaper tickets had sold out.

The Competition and Markets Authority has now told Ticketmaster to provide clearer guidance on its pricing to ensure fans are not presented with a sudden price rise.

Sarah Cardell, chief executive of the CMA, said: “Fans who spend their hard-earned money to see artists they love deserve to see clear, accurate information, upfront.

“We can’t ensure every fan gets a ticket for events as popular as the Oasis tour, but we can help ensure that next time an event like this comes along, fans have the information they need, when they need it.”
