Willo, the Glasgow-based recruitment technology platform, has secured £3 million in fresh investment from Mimecast co-founder Peter Bauer to help tackle AI-driven fraud.
It is the company’s largest single investment round to date, pushing its total funding beyond £5.9 million.
The backing comes at a time when employers face a sharp rise in fraudulent and AI-generated job applications, creating a demand for stronger verification tools. Bauer will continue to play a strategic role as the company expands in the United States.
Founded by Scottish entrepreneurs Euan Cameron, Andrew Wood, and Hamish Livingston, Willo’s platform has become popular among thousands of employers.
Willo Verified Profiles is designed to directly address the growing issue of falsified applications. By pulling data from third-party sources, the tool automatically verifies a candidate’s identity, educational background, employment history, and skills. This innovation aims to restore trust in the hiring process by giving recruiters clearer, more reliable candidate insights.
Mr Cameron said: “Employers tell us they are inundated with AI-generated CVs that are hard to verify and review. That’s making it increasingly difficult for genuine, qualified candidates to stand out.”
