Food chains bet on rewards programs to boost sales
Many major food chains are experiencing softer sales and consumer pullback amid economic uncertainty. To combat this concerning trend, brands have begun expanding their value-driven offerings to win back customers.
Rewards programs play a key role in this strategy, since they help build loyalty, increase customer retention, and drive long-term growth, which could lead to more consistent foot traffic.

To make this even more enticing for customers, most rewards programs are completely free to join, and deals are available nationwide, making them a win-win for both diners and restaurants.
According to EY’s latest Loyalty Market Study, 41% of customers remain loyal to a brand primarily because of its loyalty program, and another 41% say loyalty programs have increased their spending with the brand.
A study by Antavo supports this trend, finding that nearly 70% of people join loyalty programs to earn rewards, discounts, or cash back.
“Consumers do not necessarily dine out less during downturns, but rather they shift to cheaper restaurants. If consumer spending momentum slows further, and spending on groceries outpaces spending on restaurants, it’s likely there could be a continued – and possibly stronger – shift to value and the emergence of an even more selective consumer,” said Bank of America Institute in a report.
