60-year-old furniture store closing forever, no bankruptcy

Another longtime retailer is closing its doors forever after more than half a century in business, marking yet another loss in a year filled with mass store closures and retail industry challenges.

Founded in 1965, Infinger Furniture has been a family-owned home furnishing store in South Carolina for decades. However, its time has come, as the retailer recently announced it will permanently shut down, citing the family’s retirement as the reason for this shocking decision.

But, there is more to the story than meets the eye.

The Goose Creek property where Infinger Furniture is located was sold just before Labor Day for $4.16 million to Charles Town Holdings LLC, which is led by Chuck Dawson, owner of J&K Home Furnishings.

Along with the property, Dawson’s company acquired the Infinger Furniture brand, purchased its trucks and furniture, and leased its warehouse, which he confirmed in a Facebook post.

J&K Home Furnishings, another family-owned retailer, currently operates seven locations across South Carolina.

All the details on Infinger Furniture’s liquidation sale

Although it is a sad goodbye for loyal customers of Infinger Furniture, as with many store closures, going-out-of-business sales tend to follow.

Nearly $3 million worth of furniture and mattresses will be discounted, and in this uncertain economy, with rising inflation, all price cuts are welcome.

“Right now we’re focused on clearing all of our inventory out of our store and warehouse so the new business can start fresh with a store renovation and their own brands. All the Infinger sales staff will remain in place,” stated Infinger Furniture on its website’s FAQs section.

What will replace the Infinger Furniture location?

The Goose Creek location is scheduled to reopen in early January 2026 as a new J&K Home Furnishings store. The site will undergo both interior and exterior renovations and debut as the company’s first eco-friendly location with rooftop solar panels.

Dawson also shared that the former owner, Bobby Infinger, didn’t have a succession plan, nor did he have family members to continue running the business, contributing to the store’s closure.

Important information Infinger Furniture customers need to know

On its website, Infinger Furniture reassured customers with outstanding orders that purchases will still be delivered as scheduled. Those awaiting items still in production have been contacted by sales associates with updates.

The company noted that customers may face difficulty reaching staff by phone during this transition, but visiting the store in person is the best way to get quick assistance.

Sales discounts will not apply to pending deliveries, as clearance pricing is limited to in-stock floor models. However, if a purchased item appears in the sale at a lower price, Infinger Furniture has committed to refunding the difference.
