Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group is believed to be interested in acquiring Braehead Shopping centre, west of Glasgow.

The 800,000 sq ft centre, which has more than 100 outlets, is being offered for sale and is reported to have opened negotiations with potential buyers.

Specialist real estate industry publication Green Street News said Braehead “is being offered to investors off-market”.

Owner SGS Group, whose other sites include Lakeside in Essex, last year negotiated a £445m loan with OakNorth in partnership with Lloyds, describing the recapitalisation as a vote of confidence in the performance of its sites.

Frasers Group owns, among others, the Overgate centre in Dundee and Frenchgate centre in Doncaster.

In May, the real estate investor Praxis acquired the St Enoch Shopping Centre and leisure destination.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield said it is bringing the Westfield brand to Scotland for the first time, expanding its UK footprint to acquire a 25% stake in Edinburgh’s St James Quarter, in partnership with long-term investor APG.

Within the new joint venture partnership, URW will manage the asset, “adding to its platform of dominant shopping centres in major cities in the US and Europe”.

St James Quarter ranks among Europe’s 20 highest-footfall retail destinations.
