Las Vegas Strip casino closes legendary rock star’s residency

Las Vegas Strip casinos have been closing huge music residencies lately, which will make way for new shows for the future.

The list includes veteran residency performers and two first-time engagement headliners.

Legendary pop superstar Janet Jackson closed her long-running residency at Resorts World Las Vegas with a final show on Sept. 20.

Jackson opened her 22-show residency in the 5,000-seat Resorts World Theater with shows on Dec. 30-31, 2024; and Jan. 3 and 4, 2025, then added six shows Feb. 5-15 and another six shows May 21-31, before booking six final shows in September.

Other bands that have closed recent residencies on the Strip include hard rock band Scorpions, which closed its five-show “Coming Home to Las Vegas 60th Anniversary” residency at PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, on Aug. 23.

Lenny Kravitz closed his residency at Park MGM

Superstar rocker Lenny Kravitz finished his 10-show Blue Electric Light Las Vegas residency at Park MGM’s Dolby Live on the Las Vegas Strip on Aug. 9.

Neither Kravitz nor the Park MGM has indicated whether the rock star will return for another residency.

Kravitz debuted his first residency on the Strip with Blue Electric Light Las Vegas at MGM Resorts International’s Dolby Live at Park MGM for five shows on Oct. 18-26, 2024, after completing a European tour.

Hard rock band Joan Jett & the Blackhearts closed its first-ever residency at the House of Blues at MGM Resorts International’s Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Las Vegas on June 21.

Ringo Starr closes Venetian Las Vegas residency

And now, rock legend Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band close their six-show residency at the Venetian Theater at Apollo Global Management’s Venetian Las Vegas on Sept. 27. 

The legendary Beatles drummer, who opened his latest residency on Sept. 17, previously performed a six-show residency at The Venetian in May and June 2024.

The current lineup of Ringo’s All Starr Band includes Men at Work’s Colin Hay, Toto’s Steve Lukather and Warren Ham, Average White Band’s Hamish Stuart, drummer Gregg Bissonette, who has recorded with David Lee Roth, and keyboard player Buck Johnson, who has performed with Aerosmith.

Ringo sang 12 songs, including Beatles songs “Yellow Submarine,” “With a Little Help From My Friends,” and “I Wanna Be Your Man,” and his solo classics, “It Don’t Come Easy,” “Photograph,” and ” No No Song.”

All Starr Band singers contributed songs from their past bands, including Hay singing Men At Work’s “Down Under,” “Who Could It Be Now?” and “Overkill”; Lukather and Ham on Toto’s “Hold the Line,” “Rosana,” and “Africa”; and Stuart on Average White Band’s “Pick Up the Pieces” and “Cut the Cake.”

Ringo’s All Starr Band debuted in 1989 with a tour that included Billy Preston as musical director, on keyboards and vocals; Joe Walsh and Nils Lofgren on guitar, Rick Danko on bass, Dr. John on piano, Clarence Clemons on saxophone, Levon Helm, Jim Keltner, and, of course, Ringo on drums.

Since the first All Starr Band, Ringo has invited dozens of rock stars to tour in his band in its 36-year existence.
